6/2/2016 - Hire Image CEO to Lead Background Screening Workshop for New England Businesses

Hire Image LLC, a nationwide background screening, employment verification and drug testing company headquartered in Rhode Island, announces that CEO Christine M. Cunneen will lead an employment background screening workshop at the Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE).

The workshop, entitled "Don't Be a Target:  How to Get Background Checks Right," will take place on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at SBANE, 1601 Trapelo Road in Waltham, Mass.  The workshop is open to members ($40) and nonmembers ($60) and is pre-approved for SHRM and HRCI credits.

Ms. Cunneen, immediate past president of the National Association of Professional Background Screeners, will review best practices for staying in compliance under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, local jurisdiction laws including "Ban the Box/Fair Chance" and the EEOC's guidance on conducting proper background checks. Special focus will be placed on the Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information law for employers who do business in the Commonwealth, along with proper process, documentation and communication that is mandatory with background screening in many New England states.

"I am looking forward to advising SBANE members and nonmembers with actionable items they can use to assess and adjust their background screening programs. The goal is to help avoid lawsuits and mitigate the risk associated with non-compliance with existing rules and regulations that are in place," states Ms. Cunneen.  "Many employers and human resource professionals may not be aware of such regulations on the local, state and federal level, nor what is required of them. It can be overwhelming but doesn't have to be with proper guidance. This workshop is the perfect opportunity to learn about how to get employment background checks done right."
