Effective July 1, 2024: Colorado employers are prohibited from requesting or requiring a job applicant’s age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at (or date of graduation from) an educational institution on an initial employment application. Further, if an employer requests documentation that includes age-related information, the employer must notify the applicant that they may redact that information.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis recently signed this law, known as the Job Application Fairness Act (JAFA), into effect. The enactment adds to the other requirements the state has implemented in the hiring process, including ban the box and a salary history ban.
