Hire Image has previously reported that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was exercising discretion to defer the physical presence requirements associated with the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) for employers and workplaces operating remotely only. As such, employers were not required to review the employee’s identity and employment authorization documents in the employee’s physical presence for 60 days.

Those 60 days were extended multiple times, with the most recent extension going through December 31, 2021.
