National Diploma Mill Scheme Impacts Iowa Long-Term Nursing Care Provider

Care Initiatives of West Des Moines, a major nursing home provider in Iowa, is under investigation for fraudulent nursing licenses. The company employed a nurse who acquired her educational credentials through the previously reported Florida-based scam that sold transcripts and materials to approximately 7,600 individuals. The Iowa Board of Nursing recently voted to revoke the nurse’s license, who falsely claimed to have obtained a nursing associate degree from Med-Life Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida. During a board hearing, she denied knowledge of the illegitimate nature of her educational program, despite evidence of questionable practices. The board deemed her case highly egregious and found her claims of believing in the legitimacy of her degree not credible.
