The growing momentum to legalize recreational marijuana and lift penalties associated with the drug isn’t slowing down. In fact, it is on the ballot in five states today—Arkansas, Maryland, Missouri, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Medical marijuana is already legal in each of these states (along with thirty-two others, three territories, and Washington D.C.).
If approved, these five states would join the nineteen others, along with Washington, D.C., that have already legalized recreational use, bringing the total states that have done so to nearly 50%.

Recreational Marijuana Laws
As Hire Image reported last month, at the federal level, President Biden recently signed an executive order pardoning citizens and lawful permanent residents convicted of simple marijuana possession under federal law and District of Columbia statute. The pardon also went a step further by blocking future federal prosecutions for simple marijuana possession. Additionally, the President called for governors to make similar moves under state laws and for a review of how marijuana is classified under federal law.
