Update to Michigan Courts and Date of Birth Redaction: Delayed Effective Date

Hire Image recently reported on Michigan’s Date of Birth Retraction. Under the initial order, Michigan would redact dates of birth from court records, rendering it far more difficult, if not impossible, to match records to applicants for employment and rental housing as of today, July 1, 2021. However, the Michigan Supreme Court issued an order yesterday that delays implementation of this rule from July 1, 2021 until January 1, 2022.

As stated in the order, “The extension of the effective date of this order is intended to allow for additional programming changes and other changes required by trial courts and court users to implement the rule changes.”

We will continue to keep you updated of any additional movement from the Michigan courts and of any delays in your searches.
