A new report from the Government Accountability Office claims that the Department of Veterans Affairs has put veterans at risk by hiring hundreds (or more) of individuals with criminal records to care for them. According to the report, it is estimated that approximately 1,800 employees at the VA’s Veterans Health Administration (VHA) likely have at least one felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance. In some cases, those employees are hired and continue to work closely with veterans even after this information is uncovered.
