Currently, Maine employers are prohibited from requesting Criminal Record information on initial employment applications. They are also prohibited from stating in any manner that persons with criminal histories may not apply for a job. Exceptions to the new law include where federal or state laws or regulations mandate that criminal convictions disqualify an applicant for a position, require an employer not to hire an applicant who had been convicted of certain crimes, or require an employer to conduct a criminal history record check.
Currently, Maine has no statewide Credit History Ban.
Currently, Maine allows the use and possession of Marijuana by individuals for medical purposes by qualifying patients. Persons 21 years of age and older may grow, gift, and possess Marijuana for recreational use. An employer is not required “to permit or accommodate the use, consumption, possession, trade, display, transportation, sale or growing of cannabis in the workplace.”
Currently, Maine employers are prohibited from asking about a prospective employee’s Compensation History until after the employer has extended a job offer that includes compensation terms.
