Currently, Missouri has no statewide Ban the Box or Fair Chance Hiring Rules. However, the cities of Columbia, St. Louis and Kansas City have their own rules. Columbia: Employers are prohibited from asking about an applicant’s criminal history until after a conditional offer of employment has been made. St. Louis: St. Louis employers with 10 or more employees are prohibited from basing their hiring or promotion decisions on an applicant’s criminal history. Kansas City: Employers with six or more employees are prohibited from making criminal history inquiries until after the job interview and a determination that an individual is otherwise qualified for the position is made.
- Credit History Bans
Currently, Missouri has no statewide Credit History Ban.
- Medical or Recreational Marijuana Laws
Currently, Missouri allows the use and possession of Marijuana by individuals for qualifying medical conditions by qualifying patients.
- Salary History Bans
Currently, Missouri has no statewide Salary History Ban. However, the city of Kansas City has its own ban. Kansas City employers with six or more employees are prohibited from:
Asking about the salary history of an applicant for employment;
Screening applicants based on their current or prior wages, benefits, other compensation, or salary histories;
Relying on the salary history of an applicant in deciding whether to offer employment or in determining the salary, benefits, or other compensation for such applicant during the hiring process; or refuse to hire or retaliate against an applicant for not disclosing his or her salary history.
