Currently, Pennsylvania has no statewide Ban the Box rules. However, the city of Philadelphia has had its own law since 2011, which underwent revisions in 2016: Employers, regardless of size, are prohibited from inquiring about an applicant’s Criminal History until after a conditional offer of employment has been made.

Currently, Pennsylvania has no statewide bans restricting the use of Credit History in employment decisions; however, Philadelphia has its own law. Employers are prohibited from using consumer credit information in making employment-related decisions.

Currently, Pennsylvania allows the use and possession of marijuana by individuals for medical purposes by qualifying patients who have a recommendation from a doctor to use Medical Marijuana. The law provides specific employment protections. There is no Recreational Marijuana law in Pennsylvania. However, the city of Philadelphia has banned pre-employment marijuana screening.

Currently, Pennsylvania has no statewide Salary History Ban. However, the city of Philadelphia has it’s own ban. Employers are prohibited from inquiring about an applicant’s Wage History at any stage of the hiring process or requiring disclosure of previous salaries as a condition of employment.
